All the alarm can do is disable the starter so you everything else should work fine with the key on. Miata batteries don't like to be left unused for long so I bet that is the problem.
PO put a Clifford Intelliguard 9000 alarm on my car. I have not driven the car in a couple weeks and the battery died. I hooked up the car to a battery tender for 24 hrs but it still shows zero signs of life. I'm thinking the alarm when into some kind of protect mode? I can't figure out what's going on. The battery is not even two years old.
Anyone know anything about car alarms?

Are you suggesting that the battery is dead dead? This August it will be two years old. Surely it lasts more than two years right?

Not if the slow drain of the alarm killed it.
You got a meter?? A voltage check would tell you if the battery is dead.
Autozone will test the battery for free.
Here is a nice video on how to check the battery & alternator. Keep in mind your battery is in the trunk!
Thanks guys. I guess I'll pull the battery and take it to Autozone. I dont have a volt meter...

^If you look hard enough, there are usually coupons for a free mutlimeter from HF.
A car battery can have 11 to 13 volts and still have 0% charge.
At AutoZone we can test and charge it for free. It takes 40 min. to 2 hours. Usually if it's less than 3 years old it'll be ok. If there is anything wrong internally our testers and chargers let us know. Sometimes a battery that's been drained all the way will have internal issues and won't take a charge.
A battery tender is really only good if the battery is at least 65% charged.
We can also do a basic test of the alternator with it still on the car.
If your battery is an AGM make sure they know before they charge it as they need to use a specific setting for it.

I thought an AGM took a good 24 hours to charge properly?
Slow charge is recommended but doesn't work if it gets too low to start the car.

I too thought the alarm in the 1990 I had was draining the fairly new OReillys AGM battery. I even had the old alarm taken out. I also had the battery tested twice by the idiots at Oreillys that said it was good. I finally went to a diiferent OReillys and explained what was happening and they gave me a new battery. Never had a problem after getting the battery replaced!
