Thread: Which one???

  1. #1

    Default Which one???

We are replacing the RAV4 this month. The RAV has become the wife's daily & she gets to pick its replacement. For those of you keeping track at home the Yellow car is now the kids and I am currently saddled with the POSIV.

Wife has narrowed down her list to the following 2. We hope to do more road trips in the near future and and gas milage is a major factor. Plus we are old so bling also plays into the equation.

2013 Hyundai Elantra Limited with Navigation

2012 Chevrolet Cruse LTZ RS with Navigation

Price wise they are about the same as well as features. Both are made in the USA. (Chevy in Ohio and the Hyundia is made in Alabama.)

Thoughts?? Anyone got any first had experience with either of these cars??

Are you buying or leasing? If you're buying and plan to keep it several years, the Hyundai has a better warranty doesn't it?

    If it's a lease, flip a coin.

Lease is my normal mode for the "family car".

    Thanks for the link!

I've heard a lot of good things about the Cruze.

How about the Skyactiv Mazda3? That would be my choice if I am in the market for a compact.

I'd compare the noise-level in the cabin at highway speeds, since that is the only real "gripe" I have with the Elantra. It certainly wasn't bad, but suprised me a bit for an otherwise semi-lux cabin. Might just be the oem tires (Contis). I'm comparing the cabin noise level to my wife's 05 Accord Hybrid, which is pretty much optioned-out and has more sound deadening than the standard Accord.

We did go look at the Mazda3 it has a great drive line in an outdated shell.... And it still has a face only a mother could love.

I like the Focus over the Cruz but the Hyundai over the Cruz (tossup between Focus and Hyundai).

^I really like the looks of the new Focus! Don't know how it stacks up otherwise.

I've had a couple of Fords in recent history that make we want to shy away from another Ford. Those Fords are why we switched to Toyota.

Duh, Ford SUV's from that era are not reknown for build quality. The designed-for-Europe cars like the Focus are light-years better.

    No CX-5 being considered?

The '03 had 3 transmission failures in 36000 miles. And also had this cute little trick where it would shut off for no reason. Good times good times!

Oh yea and the '99's A/C would only work if it was cold outside. "Unable to Replicate Customer Complaint" was its nickname!

No more SUV's for a bit we have had 5 in a row I think we are in a rut.

If you're leasing (for 3 years/36k miles) then who cares about the warranty? Get the car that looks the best (which for sure isn't the Cruze) and has the stuff you want on it.

FWIW, I had a $0 down lease deal setup on a Volt for $370/mo with 15k miles/year before I got the CTSV. Very cool technology and for day to day use being able to give a big FU to the gas station was the appeal. Wife didn't like the looks though...

Plus 3 on the Mazda 3.

We own 3 Mazda 3's and my Miata. The 09+ 3's are the only car I know of that look better with a front license plate (hides the smiley face).

My son has a '06 four door, wife has a '10 5 door and daughter has a '12 Skyactive 4 door. The '06 and the '10 have never had any problems. The '12 is too new.

The wife wanted the 5 door so she would have room for pots of flowers and other things that wives buy. I like it because I can get 8 wheels with tires in it for trips to Discount Tire.

The daughter took a trip from Tampa Florida to Lewisville KY for the Kentucky Derby. The silly Skyactive car got 42 mpg and she says she was over the speed limit both ways.

Mazda also has very good financing offers and lease offers. And we got $500 off on the '10 and the '12 for Mazda loyalty.

My new employee just got a 3... really, really likes it. I don't find the front grill to be as ugly as I did when they first came out personally. Goofy, yes, but in the right color they're not heinous. Plus you'll only see the inside while you're driving...

Its not as if the Hyundai grill is a work of art either, but I think the Mazda grill looks fine even on the NC2...

The Mazda grins, the Chevy squints and the Hyundai is a catfish...

Which one has the best autocross tires?

Either one will out run the POSIV.

I have a friend that has had 2 Hyundai. Lots of miles on them.
