Thread: New AX site?

    Default New AX site?

Flew in from Austin this morning. Someplace right before the metromess I saw an oval track with a nice looking blacktop parking lot. Any idea where this would be?

I think we were heading NE. Major interstate and I think I saw Lake Ray Hubbard shortly after.

It was SWA flt 3310. This was the path. The site looked like it might be promising.

That's Grand Prairie Speedway, right next to Yello Belly Drag Strip.

None of those have a paved parking lot. I hope KenO wasn't using too many of his SWA drink coupons in-flight.

    You got me thinking...

When I taught at Kaufman High School, the huge parking lot had no parking obstructions. Looking at it today, I appears to have interconnected parking lots with no obstructions. (not sure of the quality of the blacktop)

I also thought that maybe you were looking down at a mega-church. I mapped Lake Pointe Church (Rockwall) and they have large areas with only a few light poles.

That's all I could think of as far as "old lots" prior to the beautification efforts and codes.

    Best,
    Paul

Electronics should have been turned off anyway.

Could it be Devils Bowl in Mesquite?

Maybe Devil's Bowl, but that asphalt looks pretty aged.

Maybe it is one of the areas posted and was recently resurfaced.
