    Default Andretti Racing Experience

I did the Andretti Racing Experience today. It was a gift from my son and daughter-in-law. I drove an "Indy Style" car. My best lap was 154.41 mph.

Sounds like fun....I assume this was in a two seat "Indy car"?

I went out for a vendor's event. We drove the Indy cars but I seriously question the speed. The car has one shift into final gear and is launched with and atv pushing it. When you think about what it takes for an Indy car to hit those speeds. Two gears and that motor will not do it.

Plus let just say someone had Harry's laptimer running in his pocket and speed was between 70 - 90. Still a great time.

Single seater. "Indy Style" car. Not a real "Indy" car. I'm pretty sure there are small block Chevys in the back. As ken o said, they have just an in-out box with a direct drive. And, an ATV pushes you to get the engine started and you rolling good. No lead car, no lead-follow laps but your spotter is in constant contact via radio. One exchange I remember is "Stay low, the rider car is about to pass on your right, in 3, 2, 1." And at 1, the rider car passed me. And another, "Don't stay on the chip, back off a little." The chip being the 5000 RPM rev limiter.

I was thinking about that also. Their rules do not allow in car cameras. I was by myself. Mrs. Cone was keeping the twins. So, I didn't have anyone to time my laps. I though about taking my MaxQData, but didn't think they would let me tape the egg to my helmet. I didn't think about using my CMSLaptimer on my phone.

But, who knows........ I remember this time at Pearsall,..........

A small block Cheby and they shut it down at 5K? Pretty mild motor but prolly fun nonetheless.....

Looks fun, Doug. I have done the NASCAR class twice (the second time was cheap) and enjoyed it both times. I imagine being in an open cockpit/wheel car would be pretty cool.

It was fun and cool. I want to do it again.

Tell me Jimmy, did the NASCAR car want to turn left? The car I drove wanted to turn left so bad that I had to steer to the right to go down the straight. In that car, on that track, if I hit it, 150 MPH did not seem all that fast. The car was noisy and crude, but very stable.

VFR750, remember that the general public will be driving these cars. If the cars are used in a real racing school, I'm sure that they would increase the rev limit. When I helped at a Total Driving Experience IROC event, the cars were chipped to 100 MPH max, at the customer's request.

I'm just guessing that the lump is a SBC.

Did I mention that I want to do it again?

Yep, left the wheel straight on the front (if you enter correctly) and turn right down the back straight.
