I agree. There are several models I think would be popular in the US.
They have all of these small diesel powered cars here in Europe. Why can't we get them in the states. Small, efficent, nimble and powerful. What more do you need?

We don’t get them because diesel cars have never sold well in the U.S. No big oil conspiracy needed.

My friend used to have a diesel Golf. Getting over 40mpg certainly makes up for the price differential to gasoline (at least when compared to my Miata mpg). And I did enjoy the low end torque that's hard to find in a high mpg gas car. Still considering one for a DD.

You really need to test drive some of the modern diesels. Gone are the days of low power and smelly exhaust.
