Default 04 mazdaspeed swap into 99 finally done

It's alive! To keep the swap simple, I retained the 99 engine harness, ecu, coil pack ign.(for now) & A/C. I did some mods on driver side headlight for the inter-cooler piping & A/C bracket to retain the a/c compressor/lines, but everything else was a direct bolt affair. For fuel management, I got PCpro card right now until I can finish up with the wire harness for my MS2. Here are some pics, enjoy guys.

How does it run and drive? What are your AFR's under cruise and full boost?

Slowly breaking her in, haven't gone WOT yet but she feels really strong and pulls hard. Boost & LC-1 wide-band gauge will be install by Wednesday, so I will know how the stock ecu is behaving.

Stock ecu does not like boost a bit, as soon as I hit 4500-5000rpm engine goes into limp mode, pcpro card lit up like Xmas tree, & boost gauge don't go past 2 psi. Don't know whats wrong, but it could be related to IAT sensor bc on MSM there is one before & one after inter-cooler.

I forgot to retard the timing for boost.

28* of spark at 100kpa+ on a 9.5:1 compression engine with unknown AFR? You should get out the bore scope.

Got the CAS installed to retard timing, but now it won't start. Wired it according to Miataturbo.net, (ground, 12v, ckp, cmp) ckp to 2J & cmp to 2H on stock ecu with powercard piggyback. If I unplug CAS and plug the stock Cam & Crank sensors back in, the car runs fine. Since the CAS provides both ckp & cmp signal, I assuming that both the stock cam & crank sensors should be unplug right?

Hold on. You have a 99 harness that you're trying to run an NA CAS on? You realize the CKP teeth are on a different spacing, right? Do you also realize the 99 computer is looking for a single tooth CMP wheel rather than you multi-tooth wheel?

Why not put a real EFI computer in the car?

Trying to get it running, so I can make your MS tuning session on the 28. I got the MS2 fw3.1.1 with CAS in parallel yesterday, but it won't run.

I appreciate the vote of confidence, but I'm not entirely sure I feel safe tuning a car that saw:

Could you help with retune fuel ve table for 265cc, PO had this setup for 650cc injector?

What is your current Req_Feul value?

The value will probably be 7.2. Use the calculator in the software.

Why are you trying to run 250cc injectors in this car?

My current Req_Feul value is 14. PO was running on 650cc injector, but Im on stock mazdaspeed 250-265cc which maybe the cause. AFR is at 19 while cranking, so maybe it flooding the engine.

If the engine is getting too much fuel in cranking, it will either read rich or it will be so rich that fuel is puking out the head and onto the sensor which makes it read full lean. I suspect there is too much fuel. I start cars by puting ~33 VE table values, set the required fuel to the level dictated by the formula, and then increase crank PW until the car starts to fire. Once it fires for a couple seconds, do the same process with the ASE (after start enrichment) values until the car runs for about 5 seconds. Then, get the car idled to about 160*f on CLT, kill it, and fine-tune the 160*f crank table. After this, you can ball-park the values below 160*f. You need to get bigger injectors in the car because those won't support much more than 180whp.

This is the most tedious part. If you can put a few miles on this car, pass the bore-scope test, and make reasonable leak numbers I might tune the car, but I'm a little afraid of the liability with this engine.

Also, get that car off the CAS, on the 99 electronics, and confirm the pully damper position. You also already burned up a set of plugs on tuning cold start, expect to replace them with new BKR7Es for the final tune.

    Update!

Gave up on the MS2 because this was my DD and I started a new job recently. I bought a timing wheel for $30 and threw the Powercard Pro back on and it still would not rev past 4000rpm as before. Did some researched and found out that 02-05 had VTCS not VICS. So I unplugged the VTCS and Holy sh*t this thing haul ass. I'm running at 6 psi and running prudy rich 10 afr.

    Thanks everyone!
