Tire trailer questions...

What did you guys use as posts to mount your tires? I cant find anything resonably priced at Home Depot.

Ditto +1. Here's a couple of shots of mine. I used a 1 1/2" flange just cause I wanted it to be a lot beefier. added an adapter to down to a 1" upright pipe. Think I put 1 1/4" sch 40 pvc around the pipe and topped it off with a 1" pvc threaded plug on the end of the pipe. A little pricey but I bought 18" lenght pre-threaded pipe. seems like they were only $8 or so each.

I used the flanges wrx74 used, 3/4" threaded galvanized pipe, some pipe insulation, and PVC pipe.

Look at the 3rd pic in the first post....I took a different approach. The tires were mounted vertically, 4 across. I ran a ratcheting strap thru the wheels hub openings.

So you guys used a small diameter pipe and base and made it larger with PVC. Gotcha. I thought I needed a 1.5" or 2" pipe to go into the wheel. That makes more sense to use a small diameter and make it bigger. I was hoping to put my jack handles in the posts for easy storage. But I have plenty of room.

Sammm, I want to keep my tires on it and I hear that flat spots it. But that looks like a very good idea for transport.

My thoughts on putting PVC around the pipe wasn't so much about making it bigger as it was to protect my wheels from getting banged up on an iron pipe. The PVC provides a little cheap protection. I haven't done it yet but you may also want to consider a way to lock down your wheels/tires on the posts.

Yeah I figure it would be easier to build a lock with a larger diameter pipe.

I did the PVC for this very reason and then drilled the pipe & PVC for a padlock.

I went to Ace Hardware. They cut and threaded the galvanized pipe and cut the PVC to my specs and charged me by the length. Put the rest back on the shelf. I'm guessing for $75, you're getting full sticks of pipe.

I think the pipe I got was threaded at both ends. I cut off each end to length and the remaining center section gets used on occasion for a breaker bar.

I went to lowes and got the bases in 1". Then got a 1"x40" long galvanized pole. Plus the box mounting hardware, was about $45. I may have some PVC at home. Otherwise that will be next trip.

Home Depot 1 or 1.5" black pipe, 2 foot lengths, prethreaded on both ends and some threaded bases. 2" pvc sleeves. Drill the holes at the top through both pipe and pvc, insert padlock, or cut a flat bar to go over both bars and padlock those. Some have also made a flat metal "washer" that sits on top of the rim and is too large to slip past the padlock at the top. Put a piece of rubber on one side to avoid scratches.

I just use large rectangular "cotter pin" type thingys at the top and run a cable lock around the wheels when I am leaving it out of my sight or in a hotel overnight.
