Thread: Falken ZE-912s

    Default Falken ZE-912s

Ive now had my Falkens, (195/60x14), on my car for about 6k miles and have found them to be tremendously good on dry pavement, but ice skates when it rains. My ass end swung out turning left from the 75 frontage road, onto spring creek parkway yesterday in a very low speed turn.

Ive been toying with adding Star specs to my car, but if their wet weather grip is worse than this, i just dont know.

At any rate, anyone else driving 912s right now?

I've had great luck with them 205/45-16 on my Miata and whatever size on my RX-8 and VW Jetta. Pleased with them on my BMW until I encountered highway speed standing water and swapped allegiance to Continental's new all seasons. Never experienced the pronounced lack of grip you describe, but I have found a number of slick spots on the concrete "paving" in this neck of the woods.

I have the Falken Ziex ZE-912 in 205/50/15 and find them to be a great all weather tire. I've had them for more than 6k miles too. What tire pressures are you running? I run 28 psi all around on the street.

No experience on the star specs but the 912s were pretty tail happy in wet weather, straight line braking wasn't too great either. Could have been the asphalt roads I commonly drove on. The addition of a roll bar made the problem surprisingly worse. Some mornings were quite exciting.

Great dry tires for driving to work though.

Star Specs are unlikely to have better wet-grip than an all-season tire. They are better than most other UHP tires, but they are not a "wet weather" tire. I haven't used the 912's, but I run the Hankook V12's ont he street (similar tire) and they are better wet than any UHP tire.

Michelin Pilot Super Sports are awesome in the rain and pretty grippy in the dry. Not sure if they make them in 15" sizes though.

I have had both Star Specs and 912's but not in the same size or same exact car. The 912's were OK on the nearly stock 1990. The Star Specs were outstanding on my current car. You get what you pay for!

I too am running the 912's on my S2k... 245/40r17 in the rear and 215/45R17 in the front... My 3rd set of them to date and I've been real happy with them. Last a lot longer than some of the other tires I've used... not sure I'd track/auto-cross them, but for daily drive they work great.

I run Toyo Extensa minivan tires on my daily and the are phenomenal in the rain. Just last week I was crusing an empty highway at 80mph in rain strong enough I had the wipers on the medium settings. Nitto NeoGens are also very, very good in the wet.
