Very strange comparison indeed. The two cars are similar in some ways and totally different in others. I would take the Cayman S any day (probably even the base Cayman).

Ya, very confusing... Even more befuddling is the shittastic tires that come stock on the FRS/BRZ. Seriously, what were they thinking?
Although @ 2x the cost, I don't forsee many people cross shopping these two vehicles. Especially considering how terrible Toyota dealers are (well maybe it's just GST dealers, but still).
Buy the BRZ, spring for sticky rubber and coilovers, and for roughly $35K you have a half-price Caymans S that it a blast for DD and track duties.

One is an unreliable shitbox, the other is an FT86.

Sorry, but the Cayman is maybe the best looking Porsche, and a silly comparo. Lets tap the brakes a bit on the Subota. Cool car, great potential, but not quite a Cayman killer at this point. Kinda like saying the NC is better than the GT-R based on its autox prowess.

Autocross is a silly kids game, real men take it to the road course
At the Scion ride and drive for the FR-S the marketing guy kept beaming about how the FR-S has a lower CG than a Cayman S and a GT-R. I almost fell on the floor laughing cause...really who cares. They are both good cars in their own right, just not comparable.

I don't get that comparo either. The FTBRZ is a modern day fixed roof miata (light tossable momentum car). The Cayman is just a different animal.

Define reliable? Not maintained and still moves under its own power?
Are we only talking newer euro cars or do older ones count?
Gross generalizations are typically... wrong.
That said, I think *all* newer cars have issues... even the typical "reliable" brands.
Looks like subayota may actually be working on that issue -> http://www.autoblog.com/2012/10/22/s...for-brz-turbo/
All European cars since the dawn of time have suffered severe electrical issues. European car owners have been conditioned to think that taking the car in for service to get check-engine-lights turned off and electronics replaced is "normal", but it's not.
You don't have to do this with Toyota or Honda products.
