Apparently Simulators Make Better Race Car Drivers?

They say seat time makes you a better driver. But how do you get that seat time? Track days? AutoX? Drifting the High 5 on the way to work? What about guys who play video games? Does that seat time make them a better driver? Apparently so.

I use rFactor to drive all the local tracks before a Time Trial event. I think it helps learn the track. But it is like sex with yourself.

I've never driven a real track where I hadn't already had seat time in a simulator (COTA, Road Atlanta, Laguna Seca, MSR-C, ECR). Simulators are great training if you know what to get out of them. Too many people discount because "that's not real." You can work on being smooth, recovery, and just training your brain to go through the motions of tracking.

Given drivers from F1 down now use simulators, I think this question is well answered.

Beyond that, online racing can be very fun and very challenging. Last night ran a 90min race with 30ish drivers in an ALMS mod for rfactor. Monday I'll run 60min race in a 60's Mini v Abarth historical race.

I'm still alive. Can't believe I've been living in a tent for over a year now... haven't seen any more monster spiders but plenty of 4" ones. Ugh.

I can't wait to get out of here.

I've never driven a simulator. Must be why I am not fast like KenO. Then again, I also haven't had sex with a dwarf transsexual amputee, so not sure the theory holds true.
