Thread: So... This is bad, right?

Default So... This is bad, right?

Yes, that is the connector to the #1 coil. I won't go into details, but it was running when it happened, and then not running immediately after. I've already soldered it back together and re-taped it, but she still won't start. No CEL, the other idiot lights, oil pressure gauge, etc. all come to life when I crank. Any ideas on where I should start looking? What kind of sacrifice should I make to the Miata Gods?

Dunno, what caused it, but I'm pretty sure I have a spare wire in my garage.

Can you cut out the frayed section and splice in a new one?

Hate to say this but if it shorted there is a possibility the ECU was damaged.

Check the ECU fuse, I know when my o2 sensor shorted it kept popping ECU fuses.

BigD: Already looked into that, I'd have to replace the entire wiring harness to get an intact wire. Obviously a less-than-optimal solution.

sammm: I probably could, but I've soldered this one back together and re-taped it. Now I'm looking into the possibility of an angry fuel pump or coils. Maybe CAS or timing chain. If I can get access to an OBD-II scanner I can pull whatever codes it may be throwing. For now it's sitting in front of the house, costing me money.

Anyone want to pay off the note and tow it away? You can make a vacation of it! Come visit Colorado, and get an MSM!

EDIT: Fuses are fine, a little oxidation, but none are popped. Damaged ECU would suck, as I'd have to source one from an MSM, and get the matching ignition and keys, too. I'll have to pull the ECU and see if anything exploded.

Try replacing the large green main relay marked B5B4. The CEL will not test illuminate during key on when they fail.

Contact Flyin' Miata out in Grand Junction. They've dismantled several MSM's for V8 swaps, they may have the harness you need if it gets to that.

You may still have a short somewhere. When my O2 sensor harness melted and shorted out, my car became the biggest paper weight that I have ever owned!
