Thread: 225/45zr15 Rim Width

Many people run 225s on 7.5" and 8" rims without significant performance issues. While a 9" rim might be optimal for a 225, I doubt it will be an issue for you to run an 8" rim.

Jim m already stated that he runs 225s on 8" rims on his NB with no issues, so just go that route.

    And then I find this!

Meanwhile, the 225/45-15 Toyo RA1 is a mainstay at track events due to its friendly nature. It works over a wide temperature range and is almost immune to heat cycles. It'll just get faster and faster until it cords. If you want them shaved, that's an extra $60. While they are an R compound tire, they can also double as a very high performance street tire.

Another tire option is the 225/45-15 Toyo R888. It's a bit quicker than the RA1, but not quite as forgiving in terms of tire pressures and temperatures. This tire adds about $8 to the package, but will not require shaving due to a shallower tread depth.

This package will require a mild fender roll on 1990-97 models, but not 1999-05. The wheels are available in bright silver (shown), light grey and black.

Track Fitment Only! Required modifications for tire clearance will vary by tire size, vehicle model and alignment settings. You should be prepared to modifiy your vehicle using the following guidelines for proper tire clearance. Additional adjustments may be required. x -225/45-R15 99-2005 fit w/out modifications. 90-97 will require fender lip roll. x -225/50R15 99-2005 may require mild fender lip roll, 90-97 will require rear fender lip roll.

I gotta feeling that isn't going to fit without clearance issues.
I did for a while before I got my suspension. It looked kind of funny but no issues.

Here is a wheel width/offset calculator I found useful when I was looking. http://www.1010tires.com/Tools/Wheel...ulator#Results The 15x8 at 25mm offset was about as far outside the fenderwell as I could stand. Wider than 8" wheels with an offset that will clear the springs will protrude way past the fenders. I suppose that would be fine in some circles. With smaller diameter springs, you can use an offset that keeps the wheel in a little, and looks much better... in my mind at least.

I plan to keep the wheels in the above picture for daily driver use so I'm not concerned about looks I'm wanting more tire under the car when I go play autocross.

This car isn't mine it is my daughters and she is nice enough to let me use it for autocross as well as pay for all the maintenance, insurance, and fuel for the car.

    Hey wait a minute!

Your daughter is nicer than my son, that's why I have the green one, since I couldn't drive the blue one when I wanted.

We could swap wheels and you can try the 15x9s on your car to check fitment. It'd have to wait until about mid August or so though...
