Welcome aboard!
I'm new to this forum. I lived in WA state while I was in the Navy and had a red '92 NA with suspension mods and tires. It was a blast on the WA mountain roads.
I've been a Ford Mustang guy since college (I've owned 8 so far). I currently drive a '13 5.0.
I've always wanted a monster miata. I'm not sure how long it will take me; probably 2-5 years to do the conversion. We have a new baby on the way. Anyway, today I picked up a CL clunker for $500. It's a silver '91 with auto. It will not shift into reverse or 2nd gear. It was a long trip back to my house from Mesquite in 1st. It has a pink title and is in okay shape. It needs seats recovered, the top zipper repaired and lots of interior trim pieces are busted (probably broken into).
My son is 14 and will need to learn to drive soon. I may put in a manual trans and teach him first. I will need the pedals and clutch cylinders eventually anyway.
I'm going to use my Mustang experience and connections to source the Ford parts needed. I have a pretty good job, so I know I'm going to use aluminum heads right out of the box on the 5.0.
The main thing with this car is that there are no rusted out areas near the convertible top drain holes or in the trunk. It looks like the rain rail replacement job with the new top was pretty good actually. I didn't want a chassis that was rusting from the inside out for a 5.0 conversion. Oh well it's going to be a fun project. And whenever it's actually running and driving, I'll take it to Keller's. I saw the Miata group there one night, but I was in a white '13 5.0.... you all probably didn't want to chat with me lol.
Greetings! Welcome to the site.
...and we're highly tolerant of Mustang owners. Right, sammm?![]()
'90 "LE" available for purchase soon
2008.5 CWP MS3: JBR 70d trilogy engine mounts, short throw shifter & shift plate bushings; AST 4100 w/ 400lb springs f/r; JRZ camber plates
Welcome. You've got a long road ahead for the swap, but its a good starting point. Drop by anytime at Keller's, most miata people are just car people who like everything, but have come to appreciate handling more than just power, or are too cheap to buy power!

Check out the Mustang projects going on over at www.vorshlag.com (look at the forums). He's in Plano.
Welcome.
Check with Rick. He's got parts of an aborted Monster Miata still hanging around.
Okay I'm going to have to meet Rick and see what it will take to buy him out of Monster parts. I'm dead serious about converting mine, being a Ford and Mazda guy. I've always wanted that sound coming out of a Miata.
