Are you sure it's mouse or rat and not gecko?
I have been finding mouse or rat turds under the hood of my Miata. It is parked outside and we have a large open park behind our house. I only drive it once or twice a week. Does anyone have any suggestions to keep them out of my car?

I thought I had a mouse because of the little turd trail on the side of the garage, and I finally saw the culprit. It was a salamander.
I think that mouse poop smells more than lizard poop. Give it a big whiff and report back.

I'll take a picture of it next time. No sniffin' it for me.
They are a little bit larger in diameter than a #2 pencil lead, brownish in color and are curved like a banana, around 1/4 to 1/2 inches long.

Make sure to keep an eye on all the wiring with special attention to the sparkplug wires.
We had a rash of rats in my house, after I destroyed the little bastard rat colony I was greeted with this crap.
My bro-in-law was an exterminator at the time and he said rats & squirrels love wires. Has something to do with sugar or some sweet chemical in the wires. I've had to replace wiring here & there from little bastard chew marks like this.

Get some of the solid rat poison. It looks kinda like a stick of butter. Cut it into small pieces like pats of butter and lay it around in the engine area. They eat the 'butter' and are toast.
See what I did there?
I cleaned the turds and put a pan of moth balls under the engine. I'll start there and report back.

We've already had to replace several wiring harnesses at work on brand new cars because of rat damage. It's horrible. We keep bitching to management, but they haven't done anything about it yet. Yay for building a dealership in the middle of a fucking field!
Day 4 with the mothballs scattered around under the hood and in a pan under the engine, no signs of rodents returning. I will be buying sone 100% pepermint oil to spray atound the engine soon just to be sure.
Park more in the open if possible. They like to travel along fences and walls. Open spaces give them the heebee-geebees.
I had problems last fall-winter when parked in the driveway near the house. Once I moved the car to the street, nesting problems ended.
cheers and good luck.
Buy a hawk, let him go into your trees. Zero rodents in no time.
