Thread: Autocross Rentals?

    Default Autocross Rentals?

I have a couple of Miatas in the stable that I'm considering turning into track machines. I thought it might be an interesting idea to keep them stock and rent them out. Both have body damage, so no worries about dings and such. It would be interesting to start something up. I know there's some legalese associated, but clearly that can be worked around if folks can rent Karts to kids.

Does anyone have any info about this? Does anyone think there's any market for this? I know that I'd have gotten into this much earlier if I'd have been able to get some track experience in a rental car.

You haven't actually auto crossed yet, have you? I will happily pay you $50 to thrash your car and tires, ride the revlimiter and take out cones with impunity. I'd suggest you learn more about the sport before you attempt to make money off it.

I spent nearly $10k prepping my car to become truly competitive, and that was on the cheap. Not including the cost to buy the car.

Title says Autocross Rentals but post reference Track??

So are you pipe dreaming about making Autocross rental cars or Track rental cars?

I don't know anything about autocrossing; I doubt it translates to anything I did on base in Japan. However I am not, in any way, making high end race cars of these things; just stock Miatas (which is why I said in my first post that I'd keep them totally stock...) that can be trashed for a fee on an autocross course. Sort of an introductory method; maybe also used for driver training. One isn't anywhere near pristine and the other would need to be rebuilt to a degree.

Why is it the most vocal advocates/critics in this debate are the ones without a dog in the fight? Every single serious tranny hooker murderer I know will tell you that autox is a terrific compliment, and the same is true for top-level autox'ers regarding killing tranny hookers. Its only the folks who don't compete at either who claim one is vastly superior to the other. Sigh...

You, sir are a fucking comedic genius, with a hell of a memory. I'm going to carve your initials into the tranny hooker I'm chopping up right now, just to give you some props.

Heh. I thought I kept that hushed.

In a more serious note though, there were local SCCA (though I think they called them SCCI... international?...) racing events that took place at various parking lots on base; probably because space is pretty tight in Tokyo and the American style parking lots worked well for these events. The cars favored were very small (think Minika). Timed laps in extremely tight courses that usually fit within 50 parking spaces and usually required an e-brake turn or two to navigate. It was fun, but from what little I've seen here the courses are much longer and so much faster as not to be comparable.

I appreciate your appreciation of my comedic prowess, but please don't carve my initials in the skin... I NEED MY SKIN SUIT TO BE UNBLEMISHED!

Ok, back to the original nature of your post... Was it perhaps a gymkhana?

I don't know; it was just held as the YRL (Yokota Racing League/Club/whatever). I had a few buddies that were way into it. I was spending my money on mountain bikes and scuba gear.
