Could be an beefier clutch.
My 2 cents - May not be a bad idea to take it to Miata Solutions or Track Dog Racing and let them give it a once over for prior purchase piece of mind!
I was wondering if anyone knew anything about this car:

A test drive indicated a really stiff clutch, much more so than on my NB. Could that be a racing clutch?? Owner doesn't know if it's been switched out... anyone?

The price is on the high side IMHO. For not much more than that you could get an NC.
Agree that its priced at the absolute top of the range, so not a "deal", but not insane either. I'n the $7k range, I'd expect a HT on any NB other than a MSM. The mileage isn't bad, but not what I'd call "low mileage."
HD clutch, scratches, probably driven by the teenager who is selling it for his parents, awful aftermarket wheels, no mention of timing belt/wp. I think $6k is the price I'd suggest to feel like you got a good deal. Nice color combo and options. Pretty sure that car got the Torsen, not the T-F diff (wasn't that only in 04/05?)

I'm partial to the NB - for one (a minor but useful thing) is the switch to turn off the airbag. And 2, the color (dont judge me!). Appreciate the info - have a call in to TDR to discuss. Price seemed a little high to me as well - and there's no paperwork for any maintenance that's been done, this person has only owned the car for a short time, so he doesn't have much information on history either.
Older-person color combo and teeny-bopper wheels. It's an odd mix.
If seller has no proof of timing belt/water pump replacement, you have a $700 bargaining chip in hand. Too many good options out there to settle. I think the sale price needs to begin with a 5.

Don't look...there's nothing down here for you!
NC also has the airbag switch (on the dash near the trunk release, on the drivers side.) FYI

If you can live with the color, this seems like a much better car. I'd go as high as $7500, but start at $7k.

Screw it....it refuses to show the complete URL. Just go to Autotrader and search for 2003 Miata in zip 06037. 55K miles for $8K.
