Default WTB / WTT - Seeking 17x9's for NC

    Looking for a set of 17x9's for my 2009 MX5 (5x114.3, ET48 or 45) -- preferably RPF1, Kosei K1-TS, or 949 6ULR. No curb rash, damage, or previous repairs.

Alternatively, I can trade my silver 17x8 RPF1's (excellent condition) for equivalent condition 17x9's.

I'm not in a huge rush, but hoping to do something by autox season. I may end up getting the TRM C3's if nothing comes up on the used market (or just bite the bullet for new RPF1's or Kosei's).

All are great choices, but the C3's are just as good as the others, as the extra couple pounds doesn't really bother an stiffly-sprung NC. There were a set of 6ULR's on the pointy board classifieds recently.

Thanks OZ -- good to know and thanks for your advice over on m.net (I'm roadster-nh over there). I've been wondering about the C3's -- they periodically go on sale, making them an even better value. I'm on the FM suspension with a front RX8 sway and no rear, so not overly stiff (300# front, 200# rear).

The tradeoff of grip for weight is definitely in-favor of the grip. Its always great to minimize unsprung weight, but I wouldn't spend an extra $600 for it unless I was in contention for a jacket at nationals. Having said that, I really liked the Ki-TS on the NC.

As for C3's, buy whatever color is on-sale (usually silver) and paint them yourself. Easy-peasy.

These look like they may be 8's instead of 9's. He doesn't say so you'd have to call him.

You can buy them new for less than $1150 a set.

which would still make them overpriced, even if I had a set of 3 to complete...
Maybe 4 wheels aren't so bad after all... wickett.org

I realize that. Still overpriced. The value-added is not 1:1 for a single wheel in a used set. He ain't driving a 4x4, so full-size spare is almost worthless. I'd say its worth $100 as a single used wheel. Its only worth more to someone who cracked a single wheel. They are only $240/each new. I'd say a set of 4 used is worth $600-$700, plus $100 for the spare.

Yup... 6UL's can fetch more since they tend to be out of stock new, but in stock wheels just can't command 85-90% of new cost on the used market.

And 6ULR's are out-of-production, so have some value to the YOJDM market and people who already own a set.

Yeah, I figured that's about what I'd list my 17x8's for, give or take.

The ad says Or Best Offer. Make him an offer. That's how I got my RS+Ms. They were a CL find. Owner was asking $800 for them and I got them for 500. He had them on his Subaru for autocrosses.

If you are buying them for autocross, weight will have a very small effect on time, so small as to be almost impossible to test, around .1 to .2 sec on a 60 sec course. The difference between a 245 or 255 on a 9 inch wheel vs. an 8 inch wheel is pretty big. If you are buying them for autocross in STR class get a 9 inch wheel.

    I contacted the seller -- it's a set of two 8's and three 9's.

Lol, even more valuable!! Serioiusly, offer him $450 for the 3, then buy a single new for $240 and have a nice deal. Or offer him $600 and sell the other two yourself. I'm guessing he won't go below $1k because he's delusional, but you never know.

That crossed my mind, but now I'm wondering if I'm low enough for +45 9's with 245/40's. The FM springs get me down to 13.5" in the front, but that may not be enough -- perhaps it's OK with enough neg camber. Maybe I should have posted a WTB for coilovers LOL. Of course I also need an LSD... this never ends, does it? Then all I would need to buy is some driving talent.

It doesn't require getting super-low to fit them on an NC with decent camber. A basic fender roll covers about 90% of it. Talk to TDR, as they've done several good NC setups and know how to fit things without tons of trouble.
