Default Another newbie to Texas and to Miatas saying hello

Hello - I'm Yvonne and I moved here from CA to Springtown late last year. I just got a '95 Miata, which I dearly love!! It needs a new top (has little holes on the sides and the window cracked and got taped up by previous owner), but since the weather got nice, I usually have the top down anyway. I'm looking forward to coming to a meetup of fellow Miata lovers!! Regarding the top: I called a place called Sam's Soft Tops, and he quoted me a price of $800 to put on a new one (that's if I purchase one myself somewhere else). Is that a typical price? Yikes! If anyone has any tips on a good place to do the work, I would really appreciate it. Like I said, I'm looking forward to meeting up with you all and going for a drive. Thanks

Welcome to Texas and the forum! As far as replacing your top, give Rogue (Stevan) a call.

I'm fairly sure he'll beat $800 labor to install a top!

When I did my top on the Silver '90, I bought from E-bay. It was pretty inexpensive (I think ~$250) and came with a glass window. A trim shop installed for ~$300, which I think is more typical -- so you should shop around (+1 for Rogue). I had it installed in 2006 (I lived in Boise at the time) and it has held up extremely well, like new. Definitely get a glass window.

Welcome. Have fun with your Miata.

If you were as slow as me, you wouldn't be afraid either.

How'd you end up in Springtown? $800 is crazy talk. Welcome to TX. Enjoy that Miata.

Thanks for the welcome everyone! I will keep Rogue in mind for sure! As for Springtown, we used to come here once a year to visit friends, and since we were sick of CA, Springtown seemed a good place to move to. Texas is great.
