    Default Manual brake (brake booster delete)

    Thought I would share this here in case anyone was interested.

    After installing the Wilwood 4 pot front calipers and Carbotech xp10 pads, my brakes were very touchy. It didn't take much pedal effort to lock up a wheel and without ABS, (and a bit of help from a few co-drivers) I was getting a lot of flat spotted tires.

    I decided to delete the booster assist, but the pedal was like a rock. So instead of going with a $$$ set of Tilton pedals, I made my own delete kit.


    I made the plate out of aluminum



    and raised the hole for the master cylinder for better pedal ratio adjustment



    The lower hole is the factory 4.2:1 ratio. I added 2 more for quick adjustment if I needed it later. The top is 6.5:1 and middle is 5.5:1



    Due it the added pedal pressure I also added a poor mans master cylinder brace by welding a large nut on the strut tower brace. I found that when I reinstalled everything, due it the miata master having a 1.6" pushrods depth, I was only able to pin the rod on the pedal at the 5.5:1 hole.






    after term driving for a bit, I found the pedal to still be to stiff to be able to rev match while keeping good brake pressure. So I decided to go with a smaller master cylinder bore. After browsing online, I found the 97-99 Civic non-ABS HBs came with a 13/16 master with the same bolt pattern as the miata. I did however have to bore out the center hole due to a larger bore. And make a "t" for the front brake lines since the Civic only had 2 outlets.

    once installed I found that since the Civic master cylinder only had a .5" pushrods depth, I could now attach the rod on the 6.5:1 pedal ratio hole





    it is still a stiffer pedal, but I think after getting used to it, the feed back and pedal travel will make threshold braking much more controllable and save a few tires along the way lol.

    I use a Wilwood brake proportioning valve and have no issues with lock up.
    ...and across the line.

    After the autocross this weekend, I can say the brakes are perfect. Great feedback, with the right amount of firmness and pedal travel. I couldn't be happier.
