Anyone got any tips or shortcuts on doing a heater core replacement on an NA short of the shop manual yank the dash process?

Plan A: Dare Whitener. Bet him he can't fix it in less than 5 hours.
Plan B: Sounds like a good job for the co-driver to fix. He is an expert at getting hoses fixed.

There might be a youtube video out there to give you some tips on how to DIY.

If you cut the pipes that go through the firewall, you can remove it without removing the dash. When you install the new one, there is a write up for using a 2 piece hose arrangement.

I have no experience on an NA, but on my NB I got the heater core out and a new(used Parts Group) one in without removing the dash, there are instructions on M.net. It was wiggly/fiddly and a long time on my back under the dash, but I got it.
