Thread: great coilover deal

    Default great coilover deal

I'm always getting asked about a good budget autox/track suspension setup for Miata, so figured I'd share this. If I were in the market, this would be a slam dunk.

*sigh* if I hadnt just bought a motor, rebuild kit, and cv axles... would have jumped on this.

I should have a decent setup similar to what I was running on my 96 (and winning with) for sale soon. Not as nice as Vmaxx, but much cheaper and quite effective.

I noticed it said this set has the helper springs. On the FM site, they suggest the set that just has longer primary springs without the helpers for 01-05. Would these still be fine for an 04 MSM?

MSM is heavier, so you'd have the same fully-compressed helpers. The ride might be a bit lower on msm with these, might need to trim bumpstops a bit more. Otherwise they ought to be pretty compatible. It wouldn't be too tough or costly to swap for some longer/heavier front springs before you install these. I probably have some 7" springs around.

Cool, thanks. I'm not quite ready to upgrade yet but maybe if they're still around when I am I'll get on that. Although it's only $15 more for a new 01-05 set from FM if I were to go that way.

I still have a set of the longer FM vmax springs from when I had my MSM, I never put them on the car before I sold it.

I'd build a setup using bilsteins over vmaxx. If they were $500 it might be a deal...but for $800 you can do custom valving on used bilsteins, OBX coilovers and IST top hats and RE suspension bump stops for about the same. And it will be better :)
