Thread: Half shaft installation

    Default Half shaft installation

Bought some new ones cause there is a weird squawk in the back end and it was annoying me.

Whats the trick to putting them in?

Old ones took an act of god, jaws of life, and a sacrificial chicken to remove. Went to put in the new ones and after enough shoving pounding and turning one went in... this other one feels like its hitting something solid and not budging another inch. I can feel is slide past the 2 sets of ridges that each side has inside the diff.

One thing to note is the locking ring around the end looks kinda hammered after all the pounding so I removed it to see if they would slide in easier, it did not so I reattached it.

Type 1 torsen swapped onto a 1990. Entire rear end is from a 95m including subframe.

Everything Ive read said they should slide back in without issue... Just my luck huh?

Might be another clip lodged inside.

Well then that is not what I have .

They slide in/out with no place to bolt anything to them aside from the axle nut.

A picture of the diff. may help. If the stubs are supposed to bolt in, you'll see evidence of that.

Are you sure it's a diff. out of a '90?

Diff was "from a 95m" bought the entire subframe with diff and associated pieces off cl. Diff looked good so flushed it and bolted it up.
Had some weird noise that cannot, by many, be explained from the rearend so I just started replacing stuff.
