I know this has been hashed out recently but I couldn't find it for some reason...

I've got a few weeks off school so i'm finally getting my old POS out of the garage and running. I need a mount/balance/alignment shop that's close to the mid cities, as i'm still tuning the ms3x and inspection is over a year out. I'd rather not drive an hour somewhere. I don't track the car and I probably won't for a few years so I don't need anything fancy like TTW or the like, I just want a place that can do a good job with custom numbers.

Custom number...i'm thinking of somewhere between 949's street and race numbers, since i've heard good things about them. I have a set of 225s going on 15x8s +25 offset, so I think i'll need the extra less camber to not chew up my fenders. Any good recommendations here?

Weekend car only, haven't put more than 200 miles on it in the past 2 years, so I don't think tire wear is a big deal, though i'd like to drive it to school & work a couple days here & there. I don't track or autocross it as i'm tied to weekend work for pretty much the next 3 years at least, just a fun street car for now, I care about performance definitely but i'm not going to be competing. I don't care at all for h3LLaFlUsHJDMY0, just want to fit my fat tires and handle sharp.

Also, if this can be done at Jack Junkies (no idea about alignment) i'll take the drive and buy everyone Fat Tire & Joes Pizza, lol.

I'm not even sure if JJ is still in business, but the alignment equipment belongs to the shop that is renting half of the building (and taking it over) and is not available to JJ customers. He is as pricey as TTW and has been unresponsive to suggestions about alignment packages, so I've stopped even bothering. Id take it to the nearest Firestone and slip the tech a $20 along with your specs.

OK. Decent job and not give me shit for providing custom numbers.

    Better?

Had a run in with a couple shops before. Tech that got all pissy and threw his wrench cause the numbers kept changing on his machine and I indicated 'close enough' (way off) wouldn't quite cut it. They asked me not to come back to their shop. Granted this was a decade ago but I'd like to avoid potential jack asses if at all possible.

Just make some toe plates and do it yourself. Iphone apps are remarkably good for camber these days.

It's not easy finding a Firestone (or any other generic alignment shop) willing to do custom numbers, and do them well. BTDT.

Thanks for the info Mike. I think I'd rather drive a little more and slip some cash to a reccomendation than roll the dice if it came to it.

Hmmm...now that's a suggestion since I'd like to play with numbers at my leisure... With the fat tires and depowered steering. I'll research that when I wake up this afternoon.

This!! I had one done by a guy who knew how to do alignment.

When I took it to TTW found out he wasn't even close to hitting my numbers.

So all said and done I got 2 alignments for the price of 2 alignments.....

Call Dean at Lane's Automotive on Midway and Main in Eusless. Tell him what you want and see if he can help. Tell him Gabby referred you.

TTW and Cobb in Plano seem to be the only sure-fire options that I know of.

+1 on calling Dean. He's a former multiple time TCCRA champion. Butter him up with compliments and he'll hook you up.

There's also Fifth Gear on fm407 in Lewisville. I know for a fact that they'll do a great job on a custom spec alignment. Talk to Rick or Ricky.

Fifth Gear did mine. No problems with custom specs, they're a Porsche shop and their guys track their cars.

Another +1 for Lane's. I went there last year after installing crash bolts on the FR-S. I didn't have any problems when I came in with specific numbers.

This shop is about a quarter mile from my house so it's the winner. Huge thanks.

I went in and talked to Dean, seemed to know his stuff well, he'll do what I need.

Now I gotta get the big fat 225 rivals mounted and somehow drive back home without destroying my fenders. haha.
