    Default Incoming Arlington NB2 Noob

    Hello,

I was recommended to come here by Hornetball, so I thought "Why not?". I live in Arlington, and I go to UTA as an undergraduate Mechanical Engineering senior. I'm married to a school teacher, this means I don't have alot of money for parts! I have been into Miatas for a few years now, and I'm on my second NB.

My first Miata was a 2000 SE, and it got totaled because some old lady decided a green yield means floor it and smash the incoming car to bits! I used the money to buy a slightly nicer NB, but I lost most of my mods from the 2000, which sucked. My current car is a 2004 LS Emerald Mica.

I am looking forward to some local Miata action! I may be attending Hallett in September with my stock mush-mobile. The only thing I have done to it is some FM sways, Mazda Comp motor mounts, and ES diff bushings.

Shoot me a message if you would like!

    -Dustin

Welcome, have fun with your Miata. Your car will be at home at Hallett. There will be nothing but Miatas. But, as you know, not all Miatas were created equal. There will be everything from bone stock 1990's to turbo, supercharged and possibly V8 beasts.
On the track, I am fearless.
If you were as slow as me, you wouldn't be afraid either.

Haha, most were created +/- equal, but what people have done to them will be what sets them apart. Honestly, If I were to hop in a V8 Miata, I probably couldn't accomplish better lap times than a 140HP miata with a decent driver. This will be my first time driving on a track, and I'll most likely be on weaksauce all season tires. Wish this miata came with the 15" wheels, and not 16". There are alot more tires for 15" wheels.

On a side note, if I do decide to get some better tires, what exactly does the Tech inspection sheet mean by "comp" tires? Like hoosiers? Would RS3's count as a "comp" tire, its just a performance street tire...

    Thanks for the welcome guys!

Comp would be any sort of slicks. RS3s are still considered street tires.

And welcome to the area you might see me around. I work on campus and I am the suspension lead for the formula team at UTA this year

Ah, the good Ole UTA FSAE team. Are you an Undergrad? I took Automotive Engineering with Woods in the spring. Since I transferred to UTA I have wanted to help with the FSAE stuff, but a wife, life, 20hr min. intership during semesters, and school really get in the way. Maybe if I go for a Masters...

Thats what I figured about the tires. I just wanted to make sure, because without a bar I wouldn't pass tech with comp tires.

On a side note, Anyone know of a hard top for sale? I want it to be a defroster one, with minimal bubbling and no cracks. Paint isn't important, but if it has nice paint thats a plus. Too bad I cant post a WTB in the classifieds...

    Hey, you made it!

Dustin's being modest. He's got a nice NB. I gave him a ride at MSR-C, so he has track-HIV. Now we've got to get him to Hallett so he gets full-blown track-AIDS. LOL. His wife will love us!

Haha, don't get me wrong, my car is no POS, but it's also no show or track car. It's just very stock, still riding on the stock suspension(except the sways) with over 110K miles. Its an average NB with not a lot of time put into any portion of it. Needless to say, I love the car. It has been very reliable, plus it still handles like a Miata, so I'm happy.

On a side note, just got a set of Bridgestone RE760 tires for just over $320 after taxes and shipping. Discount Tire Direct is running a sale on Ebay, pretty large discounts. They don't have much of a selection of performance tires, so it's more of a good deal for your street vehicles. Not sure if I want to take these to Hallett yet, it's not exactly a performance tire, although I am sure they are better than the Nexen N3000 that came with my car when I bought it. Opinions?

If you decide to sell that yellow hardtop seperate from the car POS Racing, if it is in good shape with a defroster window, don't hesitate to contact me.

After speaking to Hornetball, I will be using the new tires at Hallett. Don't want the tires to get old before they get worn out! I need to register for Hallett so I can't back out for some silly reason or another.

    Indeed. Are you registered yet?

I think I'm going to call them to ask how everything works, such as where do I keep my stuff when I'm on the track.

There is a whole thread on the event.

You just sort of define a small space for yourself somewhere in paddock (grass) and leave your stuff there. Or you can rent a race port.

Well, I went to Hallett and had a complete blast!

Definately took an offroad adventure during my first session, the photographer got pics of me in the grass!

Car wasn't hurt so its all good. I ALMOST went off two other times but I saved it and kept all 4 tires on track.

Thanks to Hornet, now I constantly think of going to the track! Not good for a poor college student!
