Thread: 370z going from CS to BS

Default 370z going from CS to BS

Got word today that the 370z is going to go from CS to BS next year. Since STR is only .007 index points more. I might as well take advantage of all the Touring changes you can make and run in STR instead of BS. However one rule puzzles me. In STR you are only allowed to have wheels no more then 9" and 255 tires. However the 370z comes with 10" wheels and 275 tires. Does that mean you have to get smaller then OEM wheels and tires to run in STR or is there an exemption to the rule if your car comes with wider OEM?

From the 2014 Solo rule book.

    14.4 WHEELS
Any wheels are allowed with widths up to the following (OE wheels exceeding
    these maximums are not permitted):

STF, STC, STS, STR (AWD) – 7.5”
    STX (AWD) – 8.0”
    STX (2WD), STR (2WD) – 9.0”
    STU – unlimited
On the track, I am fearless.
If you were as slow as me, you wouldn't be afraid either.

Well that blows. Why bother putting the 370z in STR if it can't even run in STR. Those are staggered tires. With 255 in the back you would have to reduce the fronts to 225 from 245. Might as well put Mario Cart wheels on the darn thing. But I'm sure the smart people at the SCCA will rethink this for the 2015 rule book .... Yeah Right!

^It's called Sunsetting-a-car. Happened to Miata's several times over the years.

The 370Z is not a fair STR car on 10/275's. Your best hope is that it goes to STU. Worked great for the 350, which won STR at Nats in its final year there on 9/255's, so I don't see why your 370 wouldn't work on that combo.

What really bites is they are moving the 370z Coupe from .821(CS) to .831(BS). But they are only moving the 370z Nismo from .831(BS) to .833(AS). I knew I should have bought the Nismo. The one time I didn't listen to the voices in my head

But you did buy the auto, so it was a compromise from the start anyway. Don't fret, not much local BS competition. If it makes you feel better, they are moving the Fiesta ST to bury me and all the other econoboxes in HS. So much for class/rules stability. Nothing says "slow" like a turbo FiST!

I like the competition. Wish they would bring back a "Tire" type index where all types can run together. I'm still to in-experienced for the X group and just barely good enough to keep out of the Novice. Maybe the SCCA group will take that under consideration for next years agenda. At least I got one CS victory before I get kicked out

So I guess that they have released the new classing. Where can I find it?

I agree with the 370Z going to B Street, it really didn’t fit in C Street. I find it odd that it is in STR and not STU with the 350.

As for PAX, hopefully it will get a serious adjustment next year, now that Rick has more data.
