You might call Steven and Miata Solutions to see if he has any, as well as Track Dog Racing. They both have done more than a few 1.6 to 1.8 conversion over the years so may have some 1.6s gathering dust.
So we just got a 1990 Miata to build for the GRM $2014 challenge. After running a compression test, it looks like the piston rings may be pretty worn in addition to having some SNC crank wobble. So I am looking into a replacement engine.
Does anyone have any recommendations on where to look (besides craigslist) for a sub-150k mile 1.6 engine? We can't spend any more than a couple hundred dollars. I was thinking 1.6s should be pretty cheap since most people go for the 1.8.

There is a $500 93 on CL that you could recoup all of your cost from in parts sales.

Yep. If I had the time and space I'd have already bought it to flip. Can't really lose at that price.
