Thread: ER Autocross #4 - 5/22/05 Pennington Field

    Two things Blaze:
    1. Equipe Rapide has blue painters tape (and duct tape, and masking tape -- but I wouldn't suggest using either of those!) in the trailer, and we'll let you use some for your numbers/letters. Don't buy a roll just for the event... use ER's the first time, see if you like autocross, and if you do, go get some real magnetic numbers/letters.
    2. There are work assignments that don't require running around -- grid and clean-up leap to mind. The problem you'll have is getting one of those assignments. My suggestion would be to get to the event early and get to the front of the line (like Altiain does)... that way, you'll have a better chance of being able to pick grid. You might have to work 3rd heat (which isn't too bad) or 2nd heat (which is worse because you race 1st heat, work 2nd heat, race 3rd heat), but that will be better than being assigned a corner and potentially having to run/trot/amble.
Since you are brand new to autocross, take a look at the two sources mentioned in this thread. Read those "articles" so you'll have an idea what to bring and what to do. Don't worry too much about all the details -- we'll be out there, and we are very happy to help new folks!

Just lost one of my gigs, hope I will be able to come up with some cash for odds and ends before this event.
Right after I just spent $700. on equipment for my business...crap!
I guess thats the way it works though, I still am going to try real hard to make this one. I am curious about dynoing the car too just to know what its putting out.

Billy how does this relate to the subject at hand? Which would be about the ER Autocross? ??:

    Cool Just do it...

Blaze, I guess the point to your previous post is that you now may not have the cash for the entry fee. And you want to dyno your car. My advice? If you can only afford one or the other -- a day autocrossing or a few pulls on a dyno -- forget the dyno and come out for a day in a parking lot. You'll learn a lot more about your car (and yourself) at an autocross, and have a lot more fun as well. Of course, if you can afford a new header, you can probably scrape together the entry fee to an autocross.

You don't need any "odds and ends" to participate in a local autocross. They all have loaner helmets and tape for letters/numbers. As long as your car is in proper working order, you don't need to buy or do anything except show up with the entry fee.

Don't think about it, don't talk about it, don't worry about it... just do it!

Since the dyno day has been cancelled, there is no choice to make.
