The NA and NB, 1990-2005, are on the same line in the rule book, so update/backdate is OK. The NC in on a different line.

Got it. Thx for checking that. Nik, you could pull the top, but I can tell you that CSP is a tough place to play, even in a new Miata. Also, its an R-comp class.

They do. NA&NB on same line for CSP. Top NA CSP cars at nats are sans soft top

That's a very good point. I must admit, I have really enjoyed the 2 SCCA events I've run in the STS class (albeit still Novice this season). Everyone I've met has been friendly (except for tech of course ) & I would definitely have plenty of competition to force me to go faster. I just really want to do some track day events next year & want to make sure I know the impact of the upgrades I'd like to make. I'd also REALLY like to go w/an aftermarket steering wheel. I guess maybe I could just swap steering wheels back & forth for autoX.

I would not bother swapping unless you do a National event. Just run local events with the after-market wheel. Of course, I am only speaking for myself.

That feels like a trap guys. If I somehow managed to beat y'all one day (not likely I know) I suspect there might be an anonymous tip about some illegal upgrades. J/K!

If a steering wheel is your only non-legal mod, you won't be protested locally, as it would be tough to make a case that it is a performance advantage. At the National level, you'd be toast, as everyone wishes they could swap the wheel. I actually had an NB wheel in my NA with a functional airbag (theoretically) and had no complaints. That doesn't make it ok to cherry pick rules, but you pick your battles and recognize that you'll need to put it back if you ever plan to advance beyond local stuff. If its a performance advantage, even very small, don't do it. Just upclass instead.

I had that discussion with tech Sunday. It is the drivers responsibility to see that his or her car is classed correctly. Tech just checks safety items. If you show up without numbers and class letters, they will make you some of whatever you tell them.

LOL! Tech guys aren't mean. They're just cranky from waking up so early & dealing with pissed off racers who don't know how to take care of their cars.

I hope that gets me on Tech's good side.

Not a chance. Tech won't fail you for classing reasons, but they do get a really good look at all your mods. :)

The removal of an airbag shouldn't fail tech, afaik.

It would really suck if tech had to police the classes. Would take forever to get tech done.

Oh and stock steering wheel in NAs blow! Isn't it about time we protest that to national again?

Ya, I put that I was in E Street (because I am totally clueless) and I have wider than stock wheel size and a couple other things that throw me out of that class. I was told not to worry about it but, I ended up placing 3rd in ES so I just went and told the peeps in the booth and they switched me over to STS. I really couldnt care less about points or anything and I didnt want to screw anybody who does over, so they were kind enough to switch me over.

And those of us in E Street who do care and are running for season points do appreciate what you did!

I'd be down to participate in that protest.

Didn't we already have this same conversation at ER at Mesquite? Stock/street is a really simple concept. I what world is a motor swap considered stock? If you're just out for grins, run in SM and have a ball. You'll bother nobody and avoid pretending that you're competitive when you're not.
    Rant over.
