Thread: Free Up Disk Space Window 7

Default Free Up Disk Space Window 7

I need Window for Dummies help. The internal hard drive partitioned for system backup files (system restore to earlier points) is getting full. Is there any safe way to delete some of the old files? Window 7 has the tool to clean up the drive. However, it deletes every backup files except the latest one. I am not comfortable with that and like to keep several the recent ones just in case. Any recommendation? Thanks for your help in advance!

You need NAS. Before I get flames, I'm talking about Network Attached Storage. Keeping your backup on your primary drive is a bad idea, IMHO of course. If anything happens to the drive, you lose all your backups.
If I may ask, why are you keeping so many backups of Windows? You can always re-install Windows if something goes wrong but it's very hard to recover data. I usually just backup the important files and don't backup the whole OS. Just my .02 cents.

I seconds that recommendation for a NAS. I use it for my backups and movie streaming/hosting for Plex as well.

The pros to a NAS, especially newer ones, is that you can just have it schedule the back up and tell it to not delete old copies. I save 3 per machine. There are a handful of external hard drives that come with software to do this as well.

There is also plenty of online storage places to store files and such. Dropbox being one of them. I believe theres a limit to file size for most of them though.
