Thread: Gator's SMDs

  1. #1

    Default Gator's SMDs

    Gator's Sunday Morning Drives.

    What to expect:

Meet at the Racetrack at 380 and Airport road.
Clutches out at 9a sharp. I'll be there 15-30min early for fuel and caffeine.
    150 or so miles
Bio break about half way for water, restroom, and lies.
    Lunch or not...

    Pace:
</= 15 over in the straights (usually around 65-75)
~2X the posted in corners (posted is what the signs say to take the curves)
Max effort is for the track, this is just a quick easy pace with brakes rarely used. For reference, http://www.motorcyclistonline.com/pace Yes..its mc related but easily translates to 4 wheels.
Performance awards are yours to enjoy. No one stepped on the go pedal for you.
Pass when safe. Flash lights to let a slower driver know you want by. Wave by faster drivers.
Drive within YOUR limits. I will wait at every stop and turn for catch ups. I do not leave people behind. I'd rather wait on someone to catch up than call a tow truck and an ambulance. Though with the limited straight speeds, there shouldn't be much need.
No crossing of the lines when not passing. You could kill someone (including yourself) if over the center in a turn and going off the edge throws rocks on the road which is also dangerous.
Don't piss off fellow motorists. They all have cell phones and will call the police if a string of cars unsafely pass them. Pass when safe and wave as you go by. You'd be surprised how far a courteous wave will go in keeping you in the good graces of the people that live along these roads. Remember you're driving through where they live.

I'll be doing these weekly and posting the treads a few days in advance. We can talk that week's route in the thread and I'll go over it again prior to clutches out. The goal is a fun safe drive. No special equipment needed. I know radios can be nice, but turn signals and some simple hand signals have been getting bikes by, I think car folk can manage also, so don't feel you need comm capabilities in order to come along. That said I'm personal partial to gmrs/frs and will have two with me. Mechanically capable and legal car required, but I'm not a safety inspector or police, it's your responsibility. This is not a club sponsored drive. You show up and drive at your own inclination. I don't offer nor accept any responsibility for your actions behind the wheel. I'm also not a lawyer and have no clue if that's even worth saying.

I also don't know if the club/forum has any rules about posting these. Admin delete if I'm out of order.

    See ya next Sunday!

Gator's in the mornings, Jerome's in the evenings, sounds like a damn fine day of motoring.

Pretty sure that's the same racetrack we meet at for Jerome's runs as well lol

It's a popular start point for many groups. My start time is the same as some sport bike groups, hence the sharp start time. The tend to beat to bs a bit before getting moving.
