Thread: Possible 96 R-package

Maybe outmatched at national-level, but certainly a contender in local events, where most folks play. Under $5k for a fun, reliable and competitive ES car is not a bad deal at all. Also makes a very good track car. POS is the most correct though; a clean R-pack w/o rust or mods fetches a premium from northern buyers these days. Enough that I could price it with shipping included and still do well.

From the additional pics on the dealer website, I see an illuminated airbag light, a nice clean engine bay, with a very brown radiator, and what looks like adjusters (maybe Koni) on the front shocks.

I think it has potential, and am impressed at how stock it is. Other than the tires, shift knob, and radio, it's all stock. The engine bay is unmolested, the door panels aren't modified for aftermarket speakers, and the crappy sun visors are even there.

Anyone with an NB is going to have a more competitive ES car.

Agree to disagree. HP difference is small, weight difference is noticeable, other than 99 Sport and 03 CS.

Yea that 94 pounds and 9 less Horse Power is epic!!

Here is Mazdas published wt/yr/hp for NA/NB excluding MSM. Remember, not all the weight gain is fluffy stuff, some is structural and performance improvement.

It sold mins after I drove it. It was in rough shape on the outside. The trunk alone had 30 bumps in it. Big, deep scratches and dents all over clear peeling off of the hood. Head light covers both had dents and cracked paint. Old feeling/looking Koni shocks. Cracks in dash, loose vents, carpet had been cut alone the passenger door. It was too short to tuck back under trim. Console was in bad shape and needed to be replaced.

The spoiler was repainted on the car without taping off. Paint drips down rear quarters and back of trunk. Clear was coming off in chunks from "repaint". Over spray all around back of trunk and quarters. Radiator was on its last leg. Pouring oil out of cam cover for what looks like a long time, coated back to drive shaft. Did have an lsd.

Good deal on an R-pack, but sounds like it was a big project to make it worth any more. Thanks for the feedback.
