Thread: Swapping Batteries without loosing everything?

  1. #1

Question Swapping Batteries without loosing everything?

Going to put a new Battery in Vivid (2002 Miata) and don't want to mess with loosing all the Oklahoma radio preset stations, Bluetooth pairings, and other Voodoo the radio can do as well as the current ready state of the ECU.

Is there a safe and easy way of doing it that someone could 'splain to me??

I have one of these, but putting jumper cables on another battery connected to the terminals in the car will do the trick also.

I don't think my cig lighter is pwr'd with the ign off so the key would need to be on accessory to keep from losing memory.

Yep, you put the key in the acc position.

Found out you can also just leave it running while you swap the battery.

Worked great but not for the faint-of-heart.

Project complete and all presets still preset!! Yea me!

Many a modern ECU, dashboard, ABS controller, et al, have been burned out doing that old school like that... It's kinda like putting the key in the "arc" position. Glad it worked for ya!

Staying Arc free seems to have been the key this time around.

Either or both usually pan out well.
