Thread: Rhd na

    Default Rhd na

I went to Cars & Coffee yesterday. What a zoo! I don't know the solution but it's gotten so popular that it's pretty hard to attend. Big draws yesterday were the two Porsche 918's and a McLaren P1.

Up on the front rows near the tollway I spied a red NA1. It didn't look special from a distance. Chin spoiler, round side marker lights, hardtop. Then I looked through the windshield and saw it was RHD! I saw a couple of those at Laguna Seca but I've never seen one locally. Does anybody here know the car or owner? Curious how it got here.

H had it at Kellers a few months ago. It's an 89 or 90 that just became eligible for import. He bought it through a broker and imported it. I think it ended up costing him about the same as a very clean low-mile collectible NA would go for here, $7-10k range. It's not perfect, but close, and very cool.

I think its neat for about 10 minutes and then, meh... Completely impractical here unless you're a mail carrier. For that kind of money you can get a VERY nice LHD Miata.

There was an even cooler RHD at the Fort Worth Cars and Coffee today. Somebody brought a very clean R32 Nissan GTR.

Also, there was a rumor going around that there's a Cars and Coffee at Texas Motor Speedway next weekend. I haven't confirmed.

RHD isn't as impractical as you'd imagine. Unless you just have to go through drive-thrus every day, it's not a big deal. That said, I prefer having a RHD car that was just straight not available in the US to a RHD version of a very common LHD car. To William's point, the JDM premium probably isn't worth it when you can get a ridiculously clean USDM car for the same money.

You don't have to be lazy. I drive a LHD car and never use a drive through. I hate them.
