Way to go Ft. Worth!![]()
The Fort Worth location joins the four existing centers in Oregon, Iowa, North Carolina, and Sweden. Like its immediate predecessor in Iowa, the data center will be powered by 100 percent renewable energy. To make this happen, Facebook announced it is helping bring 200 megawatts of new wind energy to the Texas grid by way of a 17,000 acre site about 90 miles from the data center.Facebook is well known for optimizing its data centers to be highly efficient.
For example, the company’s new designs ditch the cluster of machines commonly seen in data centers, instead replacing them with single server pods all connected to one high-performance network. Like the Oregon location, the center will be cooled using outdoor air, which greatly reduces electricity costs.

Is this not a storage center? Maybe they plan to collect the air in January and February, then use in the July and August.
On the track, I am fearless.
If you were as slow as me, you wouldn't be afraid either.

This is a really interesting video. From the open chassis servers, to no raised floor, and the extensive air management, that data center looks WAY different than the ones I'm used to seeing.

This article explains how the same type of high efficiency air handling system is used in their North Carolina data center.

Ah, so they use a modification of 100 year old technology to do this. Basically massive swamp coolers.
Swamp coolers don't work too well in these parts. I hope they know what they are doing!

My car exceeds my driving ability. That's the only possible explanation.

The real reason they're coming.
Meh, 7.4 million/year is not a large sum, and there are many hundreds of millions worth of economic impact locally outside of the taxes. I'm guessing it's a better investment than a Super Bowl.

"It'll cost taxpayers"..... Drives me nuts how taxes not imposed are considered a "cost". Like there would be more money in the coffers if the data center did not come.
