Thread: 2003 engine filter heater

    Default 2003 engine filter heater

2003 motor has what appears to be a preheater between block and filter
Is it easily removed? Want to add 1.6 pressure sending unit and that thing is in the way

The Oil Cooler?, yes easily removed. Remove the filter. The remove the nut, on the same shaft the filter screws into. IIRC, its either a 29mm or 33mm. I know that its the same as one of the wheel nuts. I can't remember front or back.

You will want the filter tube from a 1.6 to replace it or the filter won't seat properly.

It's as much for getting the engine up to temp quickly as it is for oil cooling, though it reportedly does make a difference in oil temps in high operating temp range.
