1.7 ccw? How is timing done, do they have rental transponders?
This is not an autocross event, but it does use the SCCA autocross classing and it is designed to be a stepping stone for autocrosser interested in more track oriented events. If your car is eligible for SCCA autocrossing, then it is eligible here in the same class.
You get 100 minutes of competitive track time for at Motorsport Ranch in Cresson for $125. It is a time trial, so you are racing (via lap times) against others. There is passing at specific sections of the track with point-bys.
You will have a blast!
SCCA ClubTime trials are coming to Motorsports Ranch Cresson January 16, 2016, and again at Texas World Speedway Feb 13 &1 4 2016.
Come run on a big track with real timing and with great people. This is the most fun you can have on your way to getting a racing license!

Have you ever wanted to step up to the next level from HPDE? Do you want to get out and experience racing on a real road course? Well, now you can! A Time Trial competition is specifically designed for those of us not yet ready to invest in a fully prepped race car All you need is your street vehicle (Daily drivers work great!), a valid operator’s license and a Snell 2005+ rated helmet and you are ready! This is a Club Trials (PDX Level 2) event per SCCA time trial rules. All participants will have to use a transponder. The entry fee is $125 for a single day, $175 for both days. If you haven't been previously signed off to drive on track solo with the SCCA, we will need to qualify you. If you have your own transponder, there is a $25 discount.
This special event will allow you to run in a group of your peers during the same weekend the SCCA Club racers are at the same track! This is a great experience at a track with great history including Nascar, Indy Cars and Formula One. Run at the same track on the same weekend with some of today’s up and coming top level racers and current champions. The experience to watch them race, and then try your hand at a timed event all on the same weekend is hard to beat!

I feel like I'm reading conflicting information. Do I need any training or certification before the event on Saturday? Are there any instructors available?
Also, is Friday mandatory for newbs?

There is more info on the registration link and also an email for Brad Flack, who is the best person to answer your questions:
You only need to be there on Saturday. The driver school classroom on Friday is referring to the wheel-to-wheel students. We're much lower on the totem pole.If you haven't been previously signed off to drive on track solo, we will provide an instructor for your first session.
Note - Friday is a 'Track Sponsored' Test-n-Tune. Usually at MSR-C for TnT roll bars (for convertibles) and race suits are required. (Smiley's has race suits you can try on) They also want you to have solo experience at MSR (APEX or TDE) or a race license.

Seems like every time I think I have this figured out someone post something else that makes me wonder.....
Interest waning.
Mrs. JRJ512 is in. Hooray! I'll be her pit crew and boy toy.
I’m out. I have torn cartilage in my wrist and I am wearing a brace. It’s not looking good for me to go to TWS next month, either.
On the track, I am fearless.
If you were as slow as me, you wouldn't be afraid either.

I'm on the fence, gotta decide tonight. I'm a bit concerned about the forecast. Cold and damp is not much fun at MSR.
