Thread: Resonator Delete or Muffler Delete?

Default Resonator Delete or Muffler Delete?

Sorta interested to hear how these have both gone down in other peoples experience. I've heard sound clips of both on youtube but that doesn't do either justice. I know the resonator would increase sound and make it more boomy, but by a significant amount? Anyone just gotten a muffler delete pipe?

Tried a Muffler delete pipe on my NB it was so freaking loud and resonated so badly I only had it on the car for a few days.

Go buy it an aftermarket muffler. DIY install on an NB. Undo a couple of bolts undo some rubber hangers reverse for install and badda bing badda bomb more gooder noises.

Got a Borla on the NB for quite a while really like it loud when it needs to be and you can have a conversation in the car while rolling down the freeway.

Resonator/muffler delete will make your car loud in a bad way. If you want to show off or maybe attend a track day - that's going to work, but it will be a paint to drive around like this for a long time. Totally agree with POS Racing, a good catback or even just a performance muffler will make it really enjoyable. Check this article about exhausts. Sometimes catalytic converters are being removed to achieve better performance, but it's not considered to be street legal.

Young and broke so just trying to make it sound a little louder for cheap. Don't really mind loud, I don't drive on the highway much and have other car available to use. I do drive it most everyday at least when i finish painting it.

Cheapest option is to cut-out your oem muffler and find a generic "turbo" or glass pack muffler, then have it welded onto the existing muffler ends. That will give you a little more sound without screwing up the car badly and/or making it emissions-noncompliant.

My favorite mufflers are non chambered straight through mufflers. I really like Dynomax race, Magnaflow, Borla, etc. If you can't see light when you pick it up and look through it, it's the wrong muffler. Just removing your factory muffler and installing one like this will really let your engine sound as it should and not break the bank. It will also not hurt performance or annoy you at idle or while cruising.

When my Miata is converted to a 5.0 it's going to get an X pipe and Magnaflows or Borlas. Flowmaster chambered mufflers are for rednecks in rusted trucks. I hate chambered mufflers. They are great for DRONE..... and that's about it.

i have a redneck starter kit for sale. It's a one chamber flowmaster made to bolt up in place of factory cat back at axle joint on NB miatas. 40$ It's super loud and raspy ...
I also have a factory header back NB system that you could hack up and experiment with for the same price
