    Default Tire Recommendation

    Hi All you Texas Folk.

Apparently Bridgestone RE-71Rs will be hard to come by this summer. (yeah, I know it is summer down there - but it is JUST STARTING up here) I am wondering if you all have a recommendation for a tire that will be good for autocross and stand up to 2 or 3 PDXs other than the RE-71R.

Anybody try the Nexen SUR4G? Thoughts? Professor?

A lot of folks like the BFG Rival's. If you want to go cheaper, check out the Sumitomo's (sp?).

Thanks Sam. I tried the Rivals a couple of years ago and could never get my head wrapped around driving on them. Is the new 1.5 a big improvement over the original?

    ^Don't know about the new BFG's, haven't owned a set. There's another cheaper tire option....Federal's, I think.

It's not so much about cheap - as the Stones did 8 auto crosses, 2 PDXs at Sonoma and a PDX at Thunderhill along with 3k street miles and held up pretty well. Looking to see if anything else can match this experience.

Buy them now, and store them until the big thaw in July.

That is the problem - they are not available.

I also could never get a handle on the original Rivals, but the Rival S is much better. I like them, hated the original. I don’t know anything about the 1.5 they don’t come in ZO6 sizes.

    Edit

they need heat to work and are really bad in cold/wet conditions.

I have no experience with them, but I heard it said last weekend that the BFG Rival 1.5's wear a lot more quickly than the Bridgestone RE71Rs.
