    Default Rotella

So I've seen a few mentions on the interwebz on using ROTELLA in older cars since it has good stuff in it for older engines.

I have a 51-year-old 429 Cadillac V8 that desperately needs an oil change what do the local kids think? Is ROTELLA a good choice?

What better place to ask about a Caddy, than a Miata forum!

What do you normally put in it?

Cadillac guys are almost as random as Miata people.

Figured we had a few local old car folks here.

Plus this place desperately needs traffic so I thought I'd post here.

Diesel oils are a pretty good choice for the old non-roller camshaft engines. They are allowed much higher levels of anti-wear additives. Look for the oils that carry API SM rather than SN (the SN versions have been watered-down to the levels found in normal automotive oils and are formulated to protect catalysts).

The other thing I like about diesel oils in old engines is the level of detergency -- cleans things up nicely.

I run these in an old Mercedes and old Plymouth. I had a couple of old Caddie's back in the day. Great cars.

I used Rotella T6 (full synthetic) for ages. But after a few years of using it in my worn out big-block truck, with leaking and finding it wearing out sooner than expected (noisy lifters let me know), I switched to Mobil 1 5-50 full synthetic. The one with the red numbers. We use it in a lot of track cars when the owner doesn't want to use Motul. It's been great in my 300k mile truck.
