Is there someone that assigns numbers for you to use or do you just pull them out of your goatse?

That’s why a lot of folks like myself run a 2-digit number along with two spare 0's it gives you some variables.Originally Posted by channelmaniac
Then if you get serous you can pay for the year, which normally gets you number locked in for that club for the year.
One good way to see if someone has your # is to look at the results from a previous event.
In some clubs there is a master list, and - as POS pointed out - you can pre-pay for the year and lock in your number with some clubs (SCCA, ER, NTS2kOC). With the rest it is first come, first served.Originally Posted by channelmaniac
Instead of zeros, I'd suggest a pair of ones, and a pair each of two other different numbers. For example, say you get a pair each of 1s, 4s, and 9s. Then you can be 1, 4, 9, 14, 41, 19, 91, 49, or 94.. and if the 9 can be flipped upside down to use as a six, you can also be 6, 16, 61, 46, or 64, for a total of... umm, 14 possibilities.
The reason I'd suggest ones instead of zeros is just in case you ever get serious about autocrossing and decide to go to a Divisional, Tour, or ProSolo. If you do, and you want to have a co-driver, they (or you) have to run 100 + their number. For example, 42 & 142, which is what tailchaser & I used at the Houston Tour. Having the ones already means not having to buy another pair of numbers if that situation ever arises.
