The liquor stores often use paper bags. At least mine does and that's what I use. I've got waaaay more paper bags than I need; not because I drink a lot, because I don't shred much so I can give you some.
I try to be a good citizen. Now that I've moved to the big city where recycling doesn't mean a trip back to the grocery store to stuff their bags into their receptacle, I asked the City or Arlington for a recycle bin. (strangely enough, I still have to return the plastic bags to the grocery store, but that aint the point here).
I also have a crosscut paper shredder - now that I've moved to the big city.
My question is how do I put all those little pieces of confetti into the recycle bin and then into the recycle truck without making a mess in my neighborhood. I called the C of A water dept and they referred me to the contractor who actually collects my recycleable material. The customer service rep scratched her head for a while. Then she admitted that she does not recycle her shredded material because she does not want anyone putting the pages back together!
Her first suggestion was to leave the pieces in a plastic bag. I said, "Can't put plastic bags in the recycle bin."
Her second suggestion, after leaving me on hold was to put it in a paper bag. After scratching my own head, I asked, "So I gotta buy paper sacks to recycle my shredded paper?"
Her final solution was to put the shredded stuff under a bundle of newspaper to act as a lid. I explained that I didn't like that idea because the workers sometimes have trouble hitting the back of the truck with the newsprint, and I didn't want to be the source of a neighborhood blizzard when the confetti hit the wind.
"Yeah, I don't know. Is there anything else I can help you with?" was her final comment.
Any of you experienced city dwellers have a logical solution to my situation?

I put plastic bags (grocery store, Target) in my recycle bin all the time. Don't pet the sweaty stuff.Originally Posted by onething
I think Kroger just up the street from you (Fielder and 303) offers paper or plastic to their customers. Are you a Kroger shopper?Originally Posted by onething

Burn it?
We usually get a mix if paper and plastic bags when we're at the grocery store. We empty the shredder into the paper bags, then dump those in the recycling bin.

I think he meant the ladder wouldn't fit in the shredder.Originally Posted by onething
