You may want to look at the problem on a broader scale than just Texas before you start asking for extra income taxes to drop the price of gasoline.

The Federally mandated reformulated gas costs reformulated gasoline cost refiners 3 to 5 cents more per gallon to make versus the unformulated unleaded being sold in Oklahoma.

There is about a $0.03 per gallon tax difference difference between OK and TX.

Funny... I paid $2.21 a gallon for PLUS in Tulsa when REGULAR at the 7-11 down the street from my house in Lewisville was $2.25... That's more than $0.03 per gallon difference.

Quit banging your head & redo the math...

Re-read my post & check out the links I had one shows taxes for all 50 states, then you need to add the cost for the Federally mandated reformulated gasoline that is not required in Tulsa, but is required in Lewisville!

Then if you were still interested in an income tax use this chart from the state of Oklahoma to see how much less you would bring home in Tulsa than Lewisville.

Also note that PLUS in Tulsa is only 91 octane vs 93 here 87, 89, 91 vs 87, 89, 93.

The question is... how big of a tank would I have to have to make the hour drive worth the discount

Diesel's finally back to $3 (2.999). Hopefully it'll drop some before my needle points to empty. Right now, it's cheaper to drive the Civic (yuck) at 36 mpg than the wagon (unless it's not lying to me and this tank really is 54 mpg).

I'm guessing that the predicted 60%-90% spike in heating oil costs this winter is going to make the TDI comparatively expensive to operate, even at 40+mpg.

Diesel down here is still expensieve too... I haven't paid *as* close of attention, but I think it's still up 2.89/2.99...

I spent a few minutes looking through that... interesting reading.

The big omission I find is that they don't talk about how to recycle/dispose of the waste products. They are using some really nasty stuff and because they don't talk about it, I'm betting the average person would just pour it down the drain... kinda frightning...

if you do it right, your waste products are glycerin and water...
