Default High speed Dial-up (stop laughing)

Ok, so my girlfriend wants faster internet, but she lives out in the boonies, and they only have dial-up. They live too far out for cable, and she asked me about fast dial-up. I have had cable forever, so I dont know what to tell her. Any dial up service thats faster than others? I said net-zero, but I have no clue. Thanks

All you can do is to make sure you have a good brand of modem... clean phone jacks in the house (that green stuff coating the wires is bad news for modems)... and make sure that compression isn't turned off... Hell, you may even try tweaking the MSS (maximum segment size) and some of the other networking parameters hidden in the registry. That was a big time speed improvement back in the old QuakeWorld days.

As for Netzero... it's probably just some crazy caching or compression program...

There are other broadband options besides cable. You might suggest she check to see if DSL or satellite internet are available in her area.

I feel Her pain, we do good out here to get 28.8.
We moved from Ft Worth and were 25ft from the switching station, so we went from screaming fast DSL to 28.8 it SUCKS!
