Haha, don't I feel stupid. I said that I'd seen this website before, but I think that I was thinking ofhttp://www.lonestarmiata.net/.
Apparantly, that one seems more formal (and expensive). I like this one!![]()
I was out at the Equipe Rapide event today in Beford. I saw this website I believe sometime last year, but never got around to joining until I saw the fun and excitement today. I met at least 1 forum member while out there, but I'm not sure of his name. He gave me a dfwmiata magnet just before I went for a ride in a red BMW. Whoever you were, thank you!
I hope to participate in the next local event. Unfortunately, I didn't have the Miata with me today as I have been moving into a new appartment right across from Pennington Field. I look forward to meeting you all soon!

Welcome JohnSilverNB! There are usually a group of us Miatae drivers at any given autocross event. Hope to meet you at the next one!Keep watching the Events section of the forum ( http://forums.dfwmiata.com/viewforum.php?f=3 ) for upcoming events!
JohnSilverNB, that was me that you met... sorry we didn't get much of a chance to chat, but I'm glad you found our site!![]()
That other website you mention is for the Lone Star Miata Club, another DFW area Miata organization. In truth, they are the only "official" Miata club in the DFW area (that I know about), as we are kind of a loose confederation of Miata enthusiasts, not an official "club".
The main difference between the LSMC and our little group (aside from the whole "real club" vs "loose confederation" thing) is in our general focus. We are mainly interested in the performance aspects of sports car ownership -- Tech Days, autocross/solo II, track days, etc. And we will have an occasional scenic drive through twisty roads in Texas (or wherever), and we'll sometimes get together just for the heck of it. But performance driving is our main focus -- all in a safe, responsible manner... we aren't "street racers".
The LSMC is mainly interested in social outings. While they used to participate in performance activities, in recent years they have moved away from this aspect of Miata ownership. But they put on some fantastic driving tours, hold regular meetings, and have many social events throughout the year. You know... things a "real" club does.
I'd encourage you to go to one of their meetings. A couple of our forum members are also members of the LSMC (tailchaser, onething come to mind, and POS Racing and IMVivid either are, or have been members as well), and I'm sure they'd be happy to show you the ropes. Then you can make up your mind for yourself as to whether the LSMC is for you.
And regardless of whether you join the LSMC or not, you are always welcome here a dfwmiata.com. Come out to one of next local autocrosses, and give this stuff a try. We will all help you through your first event... just bring your car in proper working order, your driver's license, and about $25 (for the entrance fee), and you'll be good to go! Look at the Events Calendar on our Home Page to find an event you'd like to come out to. As a first event, I'd HIGHLY recommend the North Texas S2000 Owners Club event that will be held on July 17th.
It was good meeting you, and I hope to see you soon!
