Thread: Might need new top

    Question Might need new top

I have a red 1990 Miata that has the original top and it has started to leak around the drivers door. I'm sure by now I need a new top. Does anyone have any recommendations as to very good shop that will replace the top in the DFW area?

    Thanks

What side of town are you on? There is a place on Westparkway in Euless that does nice work, Benny & James. They are a recommended installer for one of the major top guys.

They did some seats for me on a Corvette, top notch work!

Unless your top is worn I don't think it needs replacement.

The rubber door seals attached to the top can be adjusted as well as the window glass.

I'd look into adjusting those before a new top. Now it your top is worn or the window is clouded it should be replaced but this will likely not fix any leaking around the window.

Keep it mind, it is a convertible. Severe rain will come through regardless and you should never take your Miata through an automatic car wash or use a pressure washer. This will cause the top to leak and can do further damage.

Unfortunately hand washing with a garden hose is the recommended method but fortunately the Miata is small and easy to wash.

    Agreed.

If it's time for a new top, find what top you like, order it and talk to Stevan at www.miatasolutions.com if you don't want to install it yourself. There are some tops that he refuses to install.

If you do need a new top, another option is to buy an M2 top still on the frame. Easy, do-it-yourself installation. Check Ebay. You may be able to score one for less than a new M1 top plus install labor.

Yup. I did that and it was a breeze to install.
