If it was last year and you just now have a problem then how do you know it was his fault?
Well this sucks! The guy that did the timing belt on my 97 motor last year somehow f'd it up and the crank end is warped I guess. I replaced the crank hub that the pulley bolts to cause it was messed up from the centre bolt coming loose, but I got home from the shop and it's still wobbleing. Guess I get to have fun Monday trying to get this ass to take responsibility and pay for the repairs.![]()
Like I said before, my car is cursed.

Well, since all I have done since then is change the oil and drive to work/school everyday then there is no reason for the crank centre bolt to come so loose I could've removed it with just my fingers.Originally Posted by riverracer

Ouch.
If you need a 1.8 crank, talk to Gary... He had some spare parts in the doghouse...

I hope that guy didn't charge you extra for the muffler bearings when he did the work on your car...

Anybody got the part number for those muffler bearings?![]()
What's left of a '96 Miata with stock clutch.
My car exceeds my driving ability. That's the only possible explanation.
That bearing looks good...I'd just put some fresh grease on it and put it back in.....![]()

Well the idiot said he inspected the crank shaft end and said it was okay so I got a new pully hub from Gary and he put the thing back together, said everything was good. I got home and popped the hood and the damn pully is wobbling just as bad as before! So I guess that means the new pully hub is f'd up like the last one now.![]()
Guess I'll have to replace the crank and eat the costs.Wish I could find a nice used motor for around $500 like some of you lucky bastards cause that's probably how much it will cost to get the crank from Gary and get new bearings and install it. I've never been able to find a motor for less than $700! how do you guys do it?

Did you get a chance to see it to confirm his findings??Originally Posted by icepenguin66
So what EXACTLY is wobbling? The harmonic balancer or the pulley? If it were the balancer, you should be leaking tons of oil from the front seal. If it is, did he put a new woodruf key on the crank? Did you SEE him torque the big bolt? To what lb/ft? Are the four small bolts on the pulley? Make sure they are not too long and are protruding thru the back of the balancer. That could have put it in a bind and cause a wobble. I find it hard to believe that you could ruin a harmonic balancer.......... Perhaps you should take it to Gary. I certainly wouldn't go back where you were if he didn't do all the things I mentioned.Originally Posted by icepenguin66

So which shop did the original work?
Well, I talked to the idiot today and told him what was going on again and all he said was to bring it in and he'll have to take it apart and look at it.
Guess I can take it back off and check it out myself tomorrow. Here's a pic of the first balancer that was damaged because the centre bolt came loose.
You can see where the end of the crank warped a groove hinto the balancer a couple millimetres deep.

Paul's Automotive at edge of Mesquite. I used him cause my good friend has been using him for many years. Not anymore though after the past several experiences...my current problem, his inability to fix a parking brake, mis-diagnosing his ecu problem, etc.Originally Posted by Treibenschnell

If that were the case, the bolt would have had to back off over one-half an inch. I would think the key would have sheared long before the groove being cut. Besides, that groove looks too consistent to be from a wobble...or am I missing something here? Any answers to my original questions????????Originally Posted by icepenguin66
