Back on the original topic of this thread....

Link to official Pontiac Solstice GXP release info

Sounds pretty sophisticated. Direct gasoline injection, dual scroll turbo, dual-phase cams (think VTEC). Five speed manual transmission (thank God GM didn't feel the same ridiculous pressure Mazda did to add an unnecesary 6th gear for the marketing idiots), and a 0-60mph time of less than 5.5 seconds. Add that to the existing Solstice platform that can get more than 2.5 degrees of negative camber at each end, plenty of room for serious rubber, and you've got one serious contender.

Yummy. I'll take mine in yellow with the optional hard top. Maybe A Stock in a GM product in '07?

Supa Sweeet! Glad they are coming out with the yellow now! Just not right to make a badass sports car and have red as the only bright colour.
Wow, didn't know they were making a hard top, cool!

*adding a 6th gear isn't a bad idea, if they actually make it an overdrive...and leave the first 5 gears the same.

ya, but not in an NA Miata. 5th is just like a regular gear you can race with if you go FI. Running at over 4k rpm in 5th isn't much of an overdrive IMO!

Gear ratios for a NA Miata.

    Miata
    1. 3.136:1
    2. 1.888:1
    3. 1.330:1
    4. 1:1
    5. .814:1

    4th is 1 to 1. 5th is overdrive.

Same as in just about every other 5 gear tranny out there.

Absolutes are one thing, perceptions are another.

Well, since ya had to get all technical and everything! I know technically its an overdrive gear but with the 4:11 rear gears the overdrive doesn't exactly do a great job...hence my reference to driving at over 4k rpms on the highway in 5th. The Miata's have some pretty aggressive gearing. The 1st gear ratio is much greater than a lot of other sports cars. I believe my 96 Z28 had a 2.7xx:1 1st gear
