Did you see this month's Car and Driver? Solstice with a 400hp LS2 V8. It's black too.
The much-anticipated, high-performance variant of the Pontiac Solstice roadster will be unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show, packing turbo power as we predicted six months ago (News, July 11, 2005).
A 2.0-liter, turbocharged direct-injected four-cylinder making 260 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque will power the Solstice GXP. Look for the boosted Pontiac in showrooms this summer as a 2007 model—at a $4,000 to $5,000 premium over the naturally aspirated Solstice.

Supa sweeet! Mallet, the tuner, had it at SEMA last month or so. Awesome job they did.Originally Posted by blackzx3_13

The Mallet Solstice is also twice the price of the regular car, which is silly.
This thing is only $4-5k more, which means you could be looking at a stripper model for around $25,000. Even if they're running $28-29,000, that's still a helluva deal for a 260hp roadster.![]()

What's silly about that? Please tell me where else I can find a brand new, 400hp , convertible sports car with a two-year warranty for just over $40k. A C6 convertible is the closest thing I can think of, and it starts at $52,690.Originally Posted by srivendel
I think a Mallet Solstice is actually a hell of a deal, when you think about what you're getting.
lugnutjon and I were just talking about that yesterday. The Solstice GXP looks like it's going to be quite a winner, especially if you could option one out for $26-27k. Yeah, the top is fiddly. Yeah, it's got no trunk space... but 260hp/260ft-lbs of torque in a package the size and weight of an S2000 sounds like a whole lot of fun.Originally Posted by srivendel

Didn't lugnutjon tear up a few Camaros, he needs to be sure he gets the extended warranty if he goes with another modern era GM product!Originally Posted by altiain

Well, if you insist on it being a convertible, then you are correct. Otherwise, this car comes to mind, and it's only $30,773.73 during GM's Red Tag event:Originally Posted by altiain

You can get one cheaper than that if you act semi interested, I went and drove one during my "never ending" car search. As the guy at the Pontiac dealer said, "they are not a big mover" The one I looked at had been at the dealership for 6 months (The inspection Sticker gave it awayOriginally Posted by srivendel

While I think the GTO is an impressive car for the money, at 3600+ pounds it will never be a sports car, at least in my book.Originally Posted by srivendel

It's definitely not a good sports car but makes a great GT car. It's fantastic on the highway and probably gets better gas mileage than the Miata running at 80 mph.Originally Posted by altiain

Ya, its not a sports car really but a 2 door sports sedan aka Grand Touring car IMO. And yes having an actual overdrive with 6 gears can do wonders for gas mileage!Originally Posted by Miatamoto

He had a '99 SS that he raced for a little over a year - it was on its third diff and its second tranny when he sold it 20,000 miles later.Originally Posted by icepenguin66

Well, I was wondering if that was what he was doing. Drag racing can take heavy toll on any car in that case. Hmm...2nd tranny, I understand the diff.Originally Posted by altiain

Mad props to him road racing the Camaro then! (I assume that's what kinda racing we're talking about) Wonder what mods he had to blow 2 trannys and 3 diffs if he wasn't doing hard drag racing launches. That tranny is the same as in the early Vipers and they held up fine while making up to 500 tq to the wheels.

No road racing either, unless you count a couple of DEs.Originally Posted by icepenguin66

That's what I've learned after seeing so many car buddies snap parts!
Anyways, I can't wait to check out the new beefed up Solstice! Wonder if I can get my mother to trade hers in for the new one!![]()

I've seen in some magazines they make the cv axles lighter and stronger with a new material for drag racing. For the wheel studs, do you know any websites that carries them?Originally Posted by icepenguin66
