Thread: Big Red Button question

  1. #1

    Default Big Red Button question

I was looking to do an S2000 Engine Start button install, but I wanted to retain functionality of the key as well... could I just use taps instead of cutting the wires to be able to use the key or the button?

Might want to ask BlackRoadster... I think he's done a start button.

Of course, the best way to get one is factory origional....

Bolix if you get a S2k button be sure and read up on the pointy board. Someone over there wired it up with a hard drive connector or something similar. This made it a lot more simple and clean than have to try and solder it. The reason I took mine out, is because of a engine disabling alarm the PO had in the car. It wouldn't let the button work.

Yeah they probably used a floppy drive molex connector. I read about it on miata.net/garage.

But do you think I could use taps to enable the use of both the key and the button?

That is a good question. To tell you the truth I am not sure. You have to turn the key to run for the BRB to work as it is.

Ah I didn't realize that you had to turn the key at all for the BRB to work... I think I will just go ahead and try using vampire taps and see if it works out... if not I guess I'll just go ahead and cut the wires.

The 2006 is the first to offer it as an option.

Yep. I have one but it is currently disconnected. I think the Bosch relay went bad since I was driving one day and smoke started eminating from the dash! Pulled over and it had burned one of the BRB wires. I put things back to stock and haven't had the cajones to get a new relay and reinstall it.
