Thread: Last day at the magazine tomorrow :(

Default Last day at the magazine tomorrow :(

I think I've mentioned before that I work for Texas Driver Magazine. Tomorrow will be my last day. I got an offer from another magazine that I "couldn't refuse." It's not an auto mag, but will be a great opportunity nonetheless.

I'm going to miss working here though. It was always busy, but it had benefits. I've got to meet auto legends, drive cars I never would of had the chance otherwise and attend some great events.

    Some highlights:
-Sitting in the Chapparal 2E in front of the garage it was built in
-Driving a Porsche Cayenne on the Chaparral test track while dodging varmits
-Riding in the prototype Ferrari F40 that Enzo used as his own car before he died
-Driving the Bob Johnson Shelby Mustang GT350R up and down NASA road (I didn't get my hearing back for a couple hours)
-Attending the last two Pebble Beach Concors', Monterey Historic Races, Italiano Concorso's, and more
-Driving a Gallardo around the TMS road course + oval at triple digits
-Driving a Panoz Esperante and nealy loosing my life due to a broken suspension
    -Touring Jay Leno's garages
    -All the photoshoots
-ALL of the press cars we got to drive
    -Meeting Alois Ruf
    -Meeting Shelby
    -Meeting Bondurant
    -Working with Bill Neale
    -So much more
-Being PAID to do all this!

    Why am I leaving again?

Good to know I'm loved. :)

Yea, I've had two coupe's before. Don't recall coming over to anyone's house with Andi's Z though. Oh wait, you meant his old Z, he recently had a new one too! Was Rich Farrell there? That was a while back...

Funny stuff! That's about the only offer I could imagine as being better uness it was a major car mag like Car & Driver, Automobile, etc...

The benefits were good, but I think the new magazine will be a better place for my career.

I did know Scott Black as he did our PR for the first year. I also know James Andresen.

No, not Playboy, although that would be a nice move :). It's a inflight magazine for a major airline.

Ah, so you get to work over by the airport now, eh? One of my good friend's fiance is an Asst. Editor for the Magazine that you read on Southwest.. Although, I think it's actually written by AA or something like that...

Give us more car stories to read on those flights! Write about travling to the big racetracks or something

I seriously doubt American has any business relationship with Southwest. Heard anything about the Wright Amendment?

It's true...AA puts together the in-flight mag for SWA.

Shoefly, sounds like you got the job my wife was going for. Good luck there.

It's all about Money... If AA can sell a mag to SWA for less than it costs SWA to make it themselves, SWA will look to the bottom line and do it. Likewise, AA will have no problem selling the service to SWA if it makes them money. It is all about squeaking out every last penny of revenue to keep the stock holders happy.

Shoefly, Is TDM looking to fill your old position? What is your profession anyway?

AA puts out SW's magazine and has done so for a number of years. AA does their own magazine, SW's and also has a custom publishing division.

I was the Art Director/Webmaster/IT/Office Ninja at Texas Driver. They have already filled the position internally
